W H I R L explores the relationship between temporary and adaptable architectural design and the changing needs of an educational facility facing current technological demands.

To solve this issue, I am developing a series of learning units at SMALL, MEDIUM, and LARGE scales. These units will provide spaces for activities at the individual, classroom, and community levels. Further, these units will rotate to change their function depending on the needs of the users.

Personal Learning Unit // SMALL

The small unit type defines numerous spaces for 1 or 2 users to occupy. These spaces provide experiences that you would typically find in a dormitory or a small apartment. There is space to rest, study, socialize, etc...

Class Learning Unit // MEDIUM

The medium unit defines spaces that many users can experience at the same time. These spaces are focused on educational experiences by providing direct and indirect opportunities to teach and learn.

Community Learning Unit // LARGE

The large units provide spaces for a large number of users. These spaces are important because they provide programming that the public can experience. These spaces are crucial in aiding to activate the building and the surrounding community.

AGGREGATION OF UNITS

Next, units are combined to allow for endless combinations of use. Ultimately providing a completed flexible and adaptable architectural model.
